International Girls in ICT Day, celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of April, serves as a global platform to encourage and empower young women to pursue careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This day highlights the importance of bridging the gender digital divide and creating a more inclusive and diverse tech industry. It aims to inspire girls to explore the vast opportunities available in ICT fields, break stereotypes, and shatter barriers. Through various initiatives, events, and activities, International Girls in ICT Day seeks to cultivate a future where women play pivotal roles in driving innovation, shaping digital transformation, and contributing to technological advancements worldwide.

As such, every year, female engineers from the eServices department, National Data Management Authority visit schools to bring empowerment and awareness of ICT career possibilities to young girls. This year was no different as our female engineers journeyed to Baracara where they spent the day with the Grade Six girls in the Village of Baracara in Region 6, Guyana, igniting the spark of curiosity and ambition among the girls at the School. They taught them the basics of coding and gave them a taste of what it would entail. Through their Girls in ICT trip, they illuminated the boundless opportunities in the tech world, inspiring young minds to explore and embrace careers in Information and Communication Technology.
