One Laptop Per Teacher Programme in Region 5

“We have given you the tools [Internet access in secondary schools and laptops] and the vision for Guyana; we are only asking that you put your best foot forward, … … [that you] commit to help turn things around, especially given the social challenges that we face in Guyana today.” Those were the words of the Head of the eGovernment Agency (Ministry of Public Telecommunications), Mr. Floyd Levi, to Region 5 teachers during the initiation of the One Laptop Per Teacher programme in Fort Wellington.

Mr. Levi also reiterated the vision of His Excellency President David Granger – a better equipped, knowledge-based society with digital equity for all and where teachers stimulate and satisfy our youths’ hunger for knowledge.

Fort Wellington was just one of the six distribution centers in operation in Region 5 on the 13th October, 2016. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education; laptops were also distributed at Rosignol Secondary, No. 5 Primary, Lichfield Primary, Mahaicony Secondary and Bygeval Secondary. By the end of the day over five hundred laptops had been given to teachers across sixty nursery, primary and secondary schools within the Region.
The distribution of laptops, under the One Laptop Per Teacher programme, continues today in Region 4.
